Sermon Description

This service weaves heartfelt worship with a sobering call to authentic discipleship. We open in prayer and hymns of surrender—“Thy Word is a lamp to my feet”—asking the Spirit to teach and guide us.

In Sunday School (Unit 5, Lesson 34), we study John 5:40 and the theme “Some Who Refuse Jesus’ Mentorship.” Through Judas Iscariot and the rich young ruler, we see how self-interest, greed, pride, and love of worldly gain can block the life Jesus offers. The takeaway: following Christ for benefits is not the same as following Him for eternal life.

The sermon turns to Revelation 3:14–20, addressing the Laodicean church—lukewarm, self-satisfied, rich in goods yet poor in spirit. Jesus, the faithful and true Witness, stands at the door and knocks. We are urged to measure our lives by spiritual health, not material success; to “buy gold refined by fire,” pursue holiness, and make room in our hearts for Christ’s indwelling.

Throughout, we pray for a soft, responsive heart, renewed devotion to Scripture, and a weekly rhythm that prioritizes our spiritual formation (Bible study, prayer, obedience) over temporary pursuits. The service closes with consecration: “Lord, open my heart; find Your dwelling in me,” as we choose the narrow way that leads to life.
